Getting Licensed: California Style

One of the biggest challenges for an alternative energy retail marketer like Glacial Energy is getting licensed to provide energy in the various markets in which alternative energy is legal. There are a number of states and territories where alternative energy is legal, but in many states it is not. Energy is provided by local utilities in those states without any semblance of competition. Only through deregulation can a market be open for alternative energy companies. Once they have deregulated, markets will generally create a licensing process through which each alternative producer must progress. Glacial Energy recently got licensed to offer their services in California.

Glacial Energy of California, Inc. received its license from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to sell electricity in all three utilities’ service territories controlled by Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric.

This means that Glacial Energy is now licensed in some of the most populous states in the nation–California, Michigan, Texas, New York, and Pennsylvania–as well as several others. Glacial Energy is one of the fastest growing alternative energy marketers in the country and part of the reason is because of the company’s wide distribution.
